Bob Weepers

Class of
Bob Weepers

Date of Birth: 1976-01-01

Year of Induction:

Bob Weepers was a lifelong resident of Windsor; he attended Patterson Collegiate where he proved himself as a most competitive basketball and baseball player. He graduated from the University of Windsor in 1962. He played on numerous championship basketball teams but he is being remembered for his overall contribution to sports in the Windsor-Essex County area.

He was the intercollegiate Athletic Coordinator of Athletics at St. Clair College for thirty-one years. In this role Weepers oversaw all varsity sports and intramural activities. While at St. Clair he was the head coach of the women’s basketball team, winners of two Silver and two Bronze Medals in Ontario Collegiate Athletic Association (OCAA). In 1980 he also coached the Windsor Ladies Basketball Association Juveniles to the Ontario Championship. He paid close attention to his athletes, meeting with academic advisors to help those who needed support or counseling. He was an important mentor in their lives up to and following their graduations.

The St. Clair Athletic Department created the “Bob Weepers Sportsmanship Award” for varsity athletes who truly represent Bob’s integrity and ethics.

Bob served on the Board of Directors of the Windsor Essex County Sports Hall of Fame for many years. He was known as one the foremost sports historians in the region.

In 2000 he was the editor/researcher of the book, “We Are The Champions”. This book recognized all of the teams from Windsor/Essex County in the 20th century who won Canadian Champions. In his message from the editor he wrote “This document will serve as a permanent record of achievement. I hope it brings back many fond memories and a feeling of pride to us all”. He added, “I thought it would provide an opportunity for me to give back to the local community that has provided me with many great memories and friends.”

Unfortunately, Bob Weepers passed away early in life in 2010 at the young age of 69.

A onetime bursary will be given to a St. Clair College Sport and Recreational Management student in honour of the late Bob Weepers. A person who dedicated his life to sport in the Windsor/Essex County area, Bob Weepers is well deserving of his place in the Windsor/Essex County Sports Hall of Fame in the Builders category.
